If you are not creating your own free opt-in list and targeting that to your niche market, then you are leaving a ton of money on the table and missing out on taking your business to the next level.

Sure you can get a hold of tons of email addresses. They are sold or given away on every Internet Marketing corner. However if you can't determine what type of leads they are and connect with who owns the email address then you have no way of knowing what their interests are or whether they would even look at what you offer.

If your leads are all people who love heavy metal rock and roll music and you try to sell them R & B, you won't make many sales if any at all.

The best way to accomplish knowing what your free opt-in list wants is to manage the opting in from the beginning. By having your own opt-in form with the variables you need to determine what they will be interested in.

Naturally if you already have a specific theme to your site such as free advertising or candle making anyone there is going to have a basic interest in that. But you can take that one step further by adding what most opt-in autoresponder systems call "demographics data". There is no specifics on this. It is solely based on your niche market. i.e. if you sell candles you can add a demographic asking the person to tell you "What Type of Candles Do You Prefer?" as they sign up to your list. They might answer natural soy based, or scented, etc. Or if you sell R & B music ask them who their all time favorite R & B artist is. You can ask them several demographics on any niche and come up with a winning profile on each of your optin members.

Here are a few essentials you will need to create a free opt-in list for your target market:

A web site optimized for being found on your niche market. You must use good search engine optimization practices to target your market and attract people that will be interested in opting in to your list.

Content optimized for being found on your niche market. This can be key word rich articles written by you or one's you have created for your own use. The more content on your web site the more attention it will get by all who are interested in learning more about your subject.

Incentives for getting your visitor to opt-in. This is where you simply offer them something free, related to your target market and make it enticing enough they feel it is worth joining your list for the gift. Again this is based on your niche. Keeping everything focused on that is very important.

Use list building strategies. Most importantly you will want to spend quite a bit of time on building your list. To do this you will need to keep a good flow of traffic coming to your web site where you will encourage visitors to join your free opt-in list.

- Co-registration, and ad swaps with list owners of similar niches to yours. This way you are not competing with each other but adding value to your own list by offering them items they would find useful.

- Buy advertising space in related ezines and on web sites offering banners ads, solo ads, etc.

- Also utilize off line ads as well. Put a coupon ad in your local newspaper giving them a discount for visiting your site and joining your free opt-in list. Place small classified ads in magazines and publications related to your target market. Add a demographic to your opt-in form such as class ad or coupon code and find out which publications or coupons work best. Putting a different code in each ad of course. Even let them take a discount of any item and find out what they liked best about what you sell by watching what sells the most. You can see this is a great avenue for the imagination.

Creating a free opt-in list targeted to your niche market may seem difficult at first glance, but with a little imagination and a lot of planning you can have a sizable one built in no time at all. Plus by doing your homework first each one of these members will be pre-qualified for high interest in your product. Ultimately leading to sales and increasing your profits for a long time to come.
